Taking Action for Emotional Wellbeing: Mental Health Awareness and Dementia Action Week

It’s no coincidence that Mental Health Awareness Week and Dementia Action Week come one after another.

Alongside blossoms, sunshine and showers, May brings us two incredibly important event weeks: Mental Health Awareness Week and Dementia Action Week.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week is organised by the Mental Health Foundation - the only UK charity focused on preventing poor mental health and building and protecting good mental health.

Taking Action

This year’s theme was all about taking action. Whilst awareness of mental health is important, taking action - for yourself, for others, for all of us - is a catalyst for change. Why not take action for yourself today…

Dementia Action Week

Just like Mental Health Awareness Week, Dementia Action Week is centred around action, not just awareness. With Alzheimer’s Society’s Forget-me-not appeal, they are funding research and action to improve the wellbeing of those affected by Dementia.

Prioritising Wellbeing

Mental Health Awareness Week encouraged us to take action to support good mental health and this week Alzheimer’s Society’s campaign focuses on taking action to raise awareness for Dementia. These causes go hand in hand, working together for a united cause: to improve wellbeing.

Prioritising wellbeing looks different for everyone but one thing remains the same - we are all deserving of the chance to have good mental health.

The Importance of Respite

When thinking about wellbeing, we mustn’t forget about ourselves.

It can often feel easier to find support for our loved ones, yet difficult to prioritise ourselves in the same way.

Take these two weeks as a reminder to prioritise yourself - you and your loved ones will thank you for it.

Local Community Support

Finding services and support within the local community can be a game changer when trying to improve our emotional wellbeing.

Whether it’s a local gardening club, coffee morning or a friendly chat with a neighbour - meeting others with kindness and an open mind can really lift our mood.
